A. Webbe, Abstract Relief in Silver and Green

The artist signs as A. Webbe and has not been identified. The work belongs to the textured, sculptural abstraction popular in British interiors of the 1960s.

Irregular rings of raised metallic relief are linked by thin trailing strands, like cells or seed heads seen under a lens. Each form sits in a halo of deep green sprayed onto the natural hessian ground. The green fades outwards in fine rays around the forms.

Mixed media on hessian: a raised relief finished in silver, with sprayed colour. Signed vertically lower right “A. Webbe”. On the reverse, the label of W. Frank Gadsby Ltd, 326 Streatham High Road, London SW16, with order number 5392. In its original white-painted box frame.
