Ada L. Pinney, Still Life of Summer Flowers

We have found no record of Ada L. Pinney as an exhibiting artist. The picture has the careful, direct manner of an accomplished amateur, and probably dates from the first half of the 20th century.

A full bouquet of garden flowers stands in a round terracotta jar on a plain wooden table. Pink and crimson roses and frilled carnations fill the centre. Spires of blue and violet rise above, among cornflowers and sprays of red. The background is a soft grey-green, darker behind the jar.

Oil on canvas, on its stretcher and unframed. Signed lower left ‘Ada L. Pinney’. There are small losses near the top right and light wear to the edges.
