About this Piece
Rodger McPhail (born 1953) is a British painter of wildlife and sporting subjects. He trained at Liverpool School of Art, has always lived in Lancashire, and held his first solo show at the Tryon Gallery in 1977.
The poster brings the wildlife of Kenya together in a single composition. A Cape buffalo, a flamingo and a running cheetah fill the foreground. Lions rest in the shade, a crocodile basks beside a hippo, and giraffes stand in silhouette against a pink evening sky. A superb starling stands at lower right.
Colour offset lithograph. Signed in the plate lower right ‘R McPhail’, with the title ‘Impressions of Kenya’ in script lower left. Printed beneath ‘© Copyright Impressions of Kenya SS.3’ and ‘P.O. Box 47921, Nairobi, Kenya’, with the imprint of Litho Prudential Printers. In a slim black frame.
