About this Piece

Iain Macmillan photographed the Beatles on the zebra crossing outside EMI Studios, Abbey Road, on 8 August 1969. He shot six frames from a stepladder while a policeman held up the traffic, and the fifth became the cover of the album ‘Abbey Road’.

This print shows the four in single file during that session. John Lennon in white leads Ringo Starr, then Paul McCartney, barefoot with a cigarette, and George Harrison in denim. The white Volkswagen Beetle, registration LMW 281F, is parked behind them on the left.

A colour print on canvas, stretched over a wooden frame and ready to hang. No maker's name or licence appears on the front. There is a small brown mark on the top edge, near the centre.
