About this Piece
Monte Fresco of the Daily Mirror took this photograph at White Hart Lane on 20 August 1966, the opening day of the season. Spurs beat Leeds United 3-1.
Tottenham's Dave Mackay, number 6, grips Billy Bremner of Leeds by the shirt, while the referee, Norman Burtenshaw, puts his whistle to his lips. Bremner had gone in on Mackay's left leg, which had already been broken twice. Mackay never liked the picture, and said it made him look like a bully.
A large later print, mounted in cream with a caption plaque recording Mackay's Tottenham career: 1959-1968, 318 appearances, 51 goals. Framed in black with a silver slip.
