About this Piece

Two decorative prints after F. de Villeneuve, probably the French painter Fabrice de Villeneuve (born 1954), known for trompe-l'oeil still lifes of flowers and china. Each shows a single bloom rising from a painted porcelain cachepot against a soft grey ground, in the formal manner of the Dutch flower painters.

In one, a pale blue iris stands in a cream pot painted with blue flowers. In the other, a white tulip feathered with crimson rises from a cream cachepot with twin scroll handles.

Titled on the reverse “Iris in Porcelain” and “Tulips in Porcelain”, with the labels of Wensleydale Framing & Fine Art, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, consecutive references WDF2315 and WDF2314. In matching distressed gilt frames with gilt slips and pale green mounts with painted line decoration.
