About this Piece
A small Picturesque river landscape of a type painted widely in Britain in the 19th century. The tall umbrella pine and the golden haze owe something to the Italianate tradition. The artist is unknown.
A river runs between wooded banks towards a stone bridge of several arches. In the middle distance a boat carries a standing figure and others seated under a canopy. On the near bank a woman in a red skirt waits on a rocky point beneath a single tall pine.
Oil on canvas, unframed. No signature is visible. A small area of loss in the water at lower left, and some wear along the lower edge and the canvas turnover.
