Iain Stewart, Pathway to Heaven

The print is signed in pencil ‘Iain Stewart’. We have not been able to trace the artist, and no publisher is named on the sheet.

A dense crowd of figures presses towards a source of light. The figures are tall, thin strokes of ochre, rust, grey and blue, many with their arms raised. Above them the colour runs down in vertical drips, from deep brown at the top to white and gold where the light breaks through. Fine black lines are trailed across the surface, and the crowd thins into the distance on the right.

A limited edition print, numbered in pencil ‘63/300’ lower left, titled ‘Pathway to heaven’ in the lower margin and signed ‘Iain Stewart.’ lower right. A monogram from the original painting is reproduced in the lower right corner of the image. In a cream mount and a silvered frame, the frame scuffed and worn.
