L. Adams, Dahlias in a Pewter Jug

A still life signed ‘L. Adams’, in the line of decorative flower painting made for late Victorian and Edwardian interiors. The artist has not been identified.

Dahlias in pink, red, cream and yellow spill from a pewter jug on a stone ledge. A single bloom has fallen to the right. The olive background is kept plain, so the flowers carry the light.

Oil on canvas, signed lower left ‘L. Adams’. The surface has an even craquelure, with some small paint losses, most visibly at the right of the bouquet. In a deep moulded hardwood frame.
