About this Piece
The Spion Kop at Anfield took its name in 1906 from a hill in South Africa where a local regiment had suffered heavy losses in the Boer War. After the Taylor Report it was rebuilt as an all-seater stand in 1994.
The panorama is taken from the pitch on a floodlit match night, looking towards the Kop. The stand is a wall of red and white scarves held aloft, with a giant club crest banner unfurled behind the goal. Pitchside boards for Carlsberg, Reebok and Ladbrokes, and the old Main Stand at left, place it in the early to mid 2000s.
Photographic print with a white lower margin, titled ‘Liverpool Football Club’ and ‘The Kop’ between two club crests. In a black moulded frame under glass. Slight rippling to the white margin.
