About this Piece
This colour etching is signed ‘Skinner’ and dated 1975. We have not yet identified the printmaker. The title refers to the old pollarded tree at left, whose knotted trunk can be read as a face.
The image is split across three plates. On the left, the tree throws up a crown of thin branches against a pale sky, with a small gold sun caught among them. To the right, two angled panels fold back like a screen. A dry-stone wall runs along them towards a line of trees, under a flat grey-blue sky and a single raised white cloud.
Colour etching on paper, printed from three plates, with clear plate marks. Numbered ‘1/30’ lower left, titled ‘Man-in-the-Moon Tree’ at centre, and signed and dated ‘Skinner 1975’ lower right, all in pencil. Window-mounted in a slim chrome frame of the period.
