Margaret Thatcher on the Campaign Trail, 1960s

Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013) won Finchley for the Conservatives in 1959 and was re-elected there in 1964 and 1966. This was long before she led her party or entered Downing Street.

She stands beside a Ford Anglia with a loudspeaker on the roof, microphone in hand, in a turban hat and a belted dress. Stickers on the car read ‘Margaret Thatcher’ and ‘Thatcher Again’, and her posters hang in the windows of the terrace behind. The Anglia and the slogan point to one of her 1960s re-election campaigns.
