About this Piece
Peter Bogdanovich’s Nickelodeon (1976) is a comedy about the early days of silent film-making, starring Ryan O’Neal, Burt Reynolds, Tatum O’Neal and Brian Keith, with Stella Stevens and John Ritter. Columbia made it with the British studio British Lion, and in Britain it was released as a Columbia-British Lion/EMI presentation. Dealers credit the British poster art to Brian Bysouth, with design by Vic Fair.
The cast stand on a railway line in front of a wooden studio front with the title painted across it. A director points from beside a hand-cranked camera. Around them a gorilla holds up a framed picture, a dog runs, a stuntman hangs from a hot-air balloon and a steam train crosses the plain behind. The tagline reads ‘in the funniest thing that’s happened to movies…’.
Colour offset lithograph on paper, in the British one-sheet format. The full credit block runs along the foot, ending ‘A Columbia-British Lion/EMI Presentation’. Laid down on board in a simple painted wooden frame. Pin and nail holes at the corners and edges, scuffs, small losses and fading to the lettering at the top.
