About this Piece
The picture is signed “P. Honoré”, a painter we have not been able to identify. Small, brightly handled views of Paris streets and flower markets were made in numbers in the mid-20th century, many for visitors to the city.
A woman in a brown coat and white hat walks away from us down a pale avenue. Flower stalls under dark awnings line the left side, heaped with red, yellow and white blooms. Trees in fresh spring leaf close over the street, and a green kiosk stands in the distance.
Gouache on paper, the highlights in thick white body colour. Signed lower right “P. Honoré”. Inscribed in pencil on the backboard “MA 19 III”, with a further indistinct note. In a cream mount and slim black frame.
