About this Piece
Richard Harrison is a British painter of game birds and wildfowl. His signed watercolours of grouse, pheasant, snipe and woodcock appear regularly at British salerooms, and Christie's sold a pair of his game-bird studies in 1998.
A woodcock stands on a woodland ride, its barred crown and mottled back picked out in fine brushwork. Behind it a silver birch leans across a bank of dry grasses, and the last orange leaves hang on the saplings. The bird's shadow falls long across the path.
Watercolour heightened with white, on paper. Signed lower right ‘Richard Harrison’. In a double buff mount and a plain wooden frame.
