About this Piece
Signed ‘Rose Barber’ in pencil. We have not found the artist in auction records or artist directories. The rippling bands of colour recall the psychedelic graphics of the late 1960s.
A single pink bloom rises on a long stem. It is cut from pink leather, with the petals drawn in stitched lines and pierced with small holes. Bands of green, teal, blue and orange fabric ripple outwards around it like contour lines. Loose threads in red, black and white wander across the surface, and a strip of cracked brown resin runs down the left side.
Original collage of silk, leather and other fabrics with stitching, laid on paper and signed in pencil lower left. Float-mounted on cream in a plain light wood frame. The backboard is inscribed with the title ‘Pink Flower on Stripy Green Silk’ and a catalogue number. The silk has rippled with age.
