About this Piece
Rosi Robinson was born in Edinburgh and read history at Vassar College. She took up batik in 1970 while training as a teacher in Bristol, and from 1986 to 2013 was Head of Art at Cumnor House School in Danehill, Sussex. She has written three books on batik and is Vice Chair of the Batik Guild.
Boys in whites and caps play a match before a long red-brick house with tall chimneys. A fielder stands in the foreground with his back to us, and dark shadows stripe the grass. The crackled lines and soft edges come from the wax-resist batik original. The title points to Cumnor House School, where she painted cricket more than once.
A limited edition colour print after the original batik. Inscribed in pencil on the mount lower left ‘Cricket at Cumnor’ 16/20, and signed lower right ‘Rosi Robinson’. In a dark green moulding with gilt lines, with a few small chips to the frame.
