Unattributed, Chefs in the Kitchen

Nothing on the front names the artist of this kitchen scene. The style and the frame suggest the late twentieth century.

Six chefs in tall white toques stand behind the counter. One holds a knife and another steadies a stack of platters. Copper pans hang along the wall behind them, with small red, white and green flags above. In the foreground, oval platters are dashed in with loose, dark calligraphic strokes.

Oil, laid on thickly with brush and knife, the whites built up in heavy impasto. Unsigned. In a mahogany-effect frame with a gilt slip.
